SUMMARY:FREE Heart Screening for Teens (ages 13-18)
DESCRIPTION:AugustHeart FREE Heart Screenings are open to teens aged 13-18. \nThe mission of AugustHeart is to provide free heart screenings to teenagers to identify selected heart abnormalities in an effort to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death. After his death\, August’s parents founded AugustHeart to prevent others from suffering tragic and unnecessary teen deaths caused by undiagnosed heart conditions. For August’s story\, visit augustheart.org/story. \nSCREENING PROCESS \n\nA parental waiver must be signed for your teen to receive a heart screening (included in online registration).\nTeens should wear loose-fitting clothing.\nScreening includes an electrocardiogram (ECG). The test will be reviewed by a cardiologist off-site\, and results will be emailed within 2 weeks of the screening. IF needed\, a limited 2-D echocardiogram (ECHO) will be scheduled at a later date.\nThe screening process typically takes approximately 20 minutes per student. NOTE: AVERAGE WAIT TIME VARIES.\nScreenings are offered at no charge. For those choosing to make an optional donation\, $30 offsets the cost to screen one student.\n\nSCREENED HEART CONDITIONS: Below is a brief list of the heart conditions we screen for\, representing some of the more common causes of why young adults might die suddenly. \n\nHYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY\nDILATED CARDIOMYOPATHY\nLONG QT SYNDROME\nWOLFF-PARKINSON-WHITE (WPW) SYNDROME\nAdditional Conditions Based Upon International Criteria
